Classic “Saturday Evening Post” cover depicts Town Council meeting
Valley Mills – Most people have no clue how the City Council and Mayor intend to acquire a part of the Robert Hall Ranch for development as a tract housing project.
In fact, most people asked amid the heavy foot traffic at this city’s filling station and convenience store have heard nothing about the proposed project.
Mayor Ray Bickerstaff said the “sensitivity” of negotiations precludes letting anyone know anything about the mechanics of the deal, which seems to have a lot of moving parts. First, the City would acquire the acreage, which is situated along Highway 6, then drill a well to bring water to the project. At that point, the developers would take over and begin to sell lots up to five acres in size and build custom homes.
One business owner who operates a hardware and feed store gave a favorable opinion of the notion, but mentioned no knowledge of the details in a reply to one of several shared versions of our previous story.
Former Valley Mills Mayor Jerry V. Pierce commented, saying “After? Public input After the decision is made??? No no no that’s not how this works!” He emphasized the opinion that people need information about a proposal of this type.
“Whatever happened to the CITIZENS making a decision as to where their tax dollars went? Just asking!” said another commenter.
